Finding An Excuse

I always love trying out new ideas in the kitchen.  Many turn out to be flops but, thanks to my family, they are always so understanding :)  With the busyness of working, finding an excuse to be creative doesn't always come up. Today, I just had to try this new idea out it being St. Patty's day and all :) I'm a sucker for whimsical beautiful cake designs so, when I first saw this idea I fell in love.

I started with two 6 inch cake rounds. Flavors were lemon and coconut because I had left over cake batter from an order I just did.

Next, I frosted the cake with vanilla buttercream tinted green. This is called a crumb coat, so that all your loose crumbs don't get in your final frosting layer.

Now for the fun part!  I put both white and green frosting into a piping bag with a petal tip so that the cake would have a two toned effect. Starting at the bottom with your pastry bag, make a colomn zig-zagging about an inch wide to the top of the cake.  Keep the thin part of the tip to the outer edge. Repeat this all the way around the cake.  Last, edge the top with the same ruffle pattern.  This was WAY easier than I was anticipating!  I can't wait to do this again in a fun girly color! :)

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Testing out some new tricks

I know I have not posted in awhile but, in the meantime I have been keeping busy with learning a few new tricks to add to my repertoire :).

Practicing some new designs at the Sweet Side.

My mom practicing her cursive :)

I thoroughly enjoyed the class and couldn't wait to try out what I had learned.  This weekend I was able to try some of these ideas out for myself in making my brother's Triple Chocolate birthday cake!

Two layers of a triple layer Chocolate Ganache cake.

Polka-dot smoosh design (I know... a very technical name :) )

Ta da! The finished piece!

The Funky Junk Salvation Show - November

It was so fun to be a part of the Funky Junk Sister's Salvation Show in Puyallup this past month.  I had a blast shopping too!  It was the first time my mom and I shared a booth: Her with her antiques and I with my sweets.  Here are a few pics for the two day event.

Cambrynn Turns One

One of my favorite things to do is to put on a party and celebrate.  No matter the occasion big or small, because it makes life that much more enjoyable!  I had the privelege a couple of weeks ago of doing the sweets for a friends daughter's first birthday party.  The theme of the party was polka dots and flowers in pink, green and brown.  Here are some pictures of the celebration.  Enjoy!

The Best of the Markets

Here's to another year out at the markets!  It's just about time for this gal to close up shop for the summer, but not before Love Our Local Fest in Olympia (August 19th) and Riverfest in Bothell (August 26th) and a few more markets to close out the month of August.

*Remember you can still order sweets through my website or email me at:

August Turns One!

My very sweet nephew turned one in July (time flies by too quickly!) and we put on a "Barn Yard" theme First Birthday party for him.  Take a look at a few of the pics  :)

Proud Mommy and Daddy :)

I think this look just summed up his day.  He was in complete awe of his edible tracker :)
